"What Can I Do To Help?"

Recently a delegation, made up of the widows of Chiefs of the FDNY, along with active duty Chiefs and Captains of the FDNY, a Uniformed Firefighters Association representative from Philadelphia, plus the authors of Radio Silence FDNY, met with Congresswoman Diane Watson at her Washington, DC Office. That group was requesting a Congressional Hearing into the selection, purchase and contracting practices of two-way radios across the country.

That group and those they represent, would request that if you are interested in helping to protect the firefighters and other first responders across this country, that you join us in requesting that a fair hearing is conducted and that a full hearing with testimony taken under oath and with subpoenas issued, be conducted as soon as possible to prevent the possibility of any more needless deaths or injuries to first responders.

Some helpful information is that Congress receives approximately 90+ million emails per year, making it unlikely that most email sent to representatives will be read. As a result of the anthrax and other threats, mail can take a long time to reach a Congressperson. The most effective ways to let a Congressperson know how you feel about a subject is via a phone call or fax. Congress will ONLY take action is it is requested and the Congress members know the public wants this area looked into.

We have listed some of the members of the particular committee on Government Reform who can call for and hold those hearings. Your phone call or fax to the members of that sub committee would be more helpful than you know.

To find out who the members of the Congressional Committee on Government Reform are, you can visit this site:

http://reform.house.gov/UploadedFiles/Government%20Reform%20Committee%20-%20Full%20Roster.pdf

From there you enter the name of any of those members into a Google.com search and obtain their fax and phone numbers.

We have listed that information for a few of the members here. Don't be afraid to get in touch with them and say that although they may not be your Congressperson, you are a concerned American and would like to see the hearing called to help save the lives of our first responders.
